Aurora was near the front of the team and was perhaps the most invested in biting the porcupine. As such, she got most of her quills in her mouth and face. She wasn’t as heavily quilled as others so she was one of the few who we kept home to de-quill, but because of a few persistent quills in her lips, she ended up going through sedation later that week to remove a few. Her poor face swelled up a great deal on the left side. We are still locating and removing a few quills from her.
Aurora was the second dog, along with Rogue, who loose-ran home. This was mostly because we went through a pretty bad tangle and to undo the mess those two were set free. I feel comfortable freeing my dogs if absolutely necessary thanks to all the free play we do. Aurora and Rogue did a great job sticking around the team and even helped lead the way home. Aurora is on antibiotics and pain killers as her face continues to heal.
